S-5!® ColorGard® Snow Retention System

S-5!® ColorGard® is the snow guard system which perfectly matches with the colour of the metal roof. This is done by the insertion of a strip of roof material into the 3m ColorGard®-rail. S-5!® ColorGard® is attached with S-5!® clamps (with 2 setscrews) depends to the type of seam. The round-point setscrews grip the seam securely without penetration and without damage to the panel’s protective finishes.

The technical and economic advantages of the ColorGard® snow guard:
Mounted with the S-5!® clamps (with 2 set screws) made of aluminium, significantly higher forces can be absorbed than with snow guards with conventional seam clamps. This means that fewer rows of snow guards are often necessary, which has a very positive effect on the overall calculation. In addition, no complex and expensive colour coating is necessary.

The S-5!® ColorGard® snow guard system includes the following components:

ColorGard-Rail 3m long, VersaClip, SnoClip and Clamp with two setscrews.

The 3m ColorGard rail is the most versatile and easy to install, when used with the S-5!® VersaClip™. Unpunched ColorGard rail is the right choice when the roof is laid out with untrue seam width or when the seam width is not divisible by 4. ColorGard rails are packed with 36m (12 pieces) per box and with Splices to join two pieces of ColorGard rails together.

Available for purchase separately, the VersaClip™ makes installation easy, as it simply slides on the ColorGard® rail and be fixed on the S-5!® clamp. Packed with 100 pieces per box.

SnoClip™ II and SnoClip III is an aluminum add-on that helps retard the migration of snow and ice beneath either the ColorGard® rail. It has a special integrated rubber foot to prevent abrasion of the panel. SnoClip slides onto the ColorGard rail and extends down to the flat of the roofing panel.
SnoClip II is packed with 55 pieces per box,
SnoClip III is packed with 35 pieces per box.

The S-5!® ColorGard System is mounted on the S-5!®-Clamp made of Aluminium (with 2 setscrews) suitable for the seam type:

S-5! ColorGard installation steps:

1.: Mounting of the S-5! clamps along the line of the string (min. 20-25cm from the edge of the eaves).
2.: Slide the 51mm wide metal strip of the roofing material (not included), in order to ensure a perfect color match, into the 3m long ColorGard rail.
3.: Then first slide all the VersaClip and SnoClip into the side of the ColorGard rail in the correct order.
4.: Then fix the rail to the S-5! clamps with the VersaClips and the M8 screws.
Please note the S-5! installation instructions.

Mounted on S-5! Clamps ColorGard can support higher loads than other standard snow retention.

A professional snow guard is used for traffic safety and protects pedestrians and objects from falling snow and iceloads. The dimensioning and design of a snow guard system depends on the building use and location as well as the roof shape and pitch. The responsibility for this always remains with the builder or building owner. RoofTech GmbH and S-5!® – Metal Roof Innovations Ltd. generally recommend that the snow guard system is planned and dimensioned by a qualified professional.

General Notes for Planning Snow Retention with S-5!

Please observe the country-specific legal and official regulations for snow retention. Depending on the location of the building, height of the terrain above sea level, roof shape, roof pitch, type of metal roof and the respective holding strength of the S-5! clamps, the suitable snow guard systems must be professionally calculated and designed.

With the snow guard system, the push effect of the snow lying on the roof is to be prevented by one or more rows of snow guards covering the entire area. The decision on the dimension and design of a snow guard system depends on the use and location of the building, and responsible therefor is always the owner of the building. In case of doubt, a structural engineer should be consulted to determine the loads and the dimensioning of the snow guard system.

Assumption is that the determination has been made that the roof to which the snow retention and the S-5! clamps will be attached is structurally adequate. Any loads imposed on the snow retention and S-5! clamps will be transferred to the roof panels. Panel seams must have sufficient flexural strength to carry these loads. Roof panels must also be adequately attached to the building structure, and the structure must be sufficient to carry these loads. The makers and distributor of the RoofTech and S-5! products make no representations with respect to these variables.

It is the responsibility of the user and/or installer to verify this information, or seek assistance from a qualified design or structural professional, if necessary. The user and/or installer of these parts is responsible for all necessary engineering and design to ensure the snow retention and S-5! clamps have been properly spaced and configured. Due to the many variables involved with specific products, climates, snow fall and melt phenomena, and job particulars, the manufacturer and supplier cannot and does not express any opinions as to the suitability of any RoofTech- and S-5!- assembly for any specific application and assumes no liability with respect thereto.

The lowest snow guard row should generally be installed about 20 to 25 cm from the edge of the eaves. If additional rows of snow guards are provided, the roof surface should be divided into sections of approximately equal size in order to achieve an even load and the best possible effectiveness. Double tube snow guard rows should only be used in conjunction with snow guard rows above them because of the leverage effect.

The material properties of the respective metals, the combination with each other and the installation instructions and regulations of all manufacturers involved (including those of the metal roof) must be observed.

The user and/or installer bears also the responsibility not only for the professional installation, but also for the roof on which he is mounted. The user and/or installer must always clarify in advance the application possibilities and application of our products in connection with the other used materials and products at the single project. The snow guard systems are not suitable as fall protection.

Please note the installation instructions of the respective S-5!® clamps and the other products used! Mounting the S-5!® clamps take care that the set screws and bolts are tightened with the right screw tension as written in each installation instruction (available in all boxes, on the homepage of RoofTech: www.rooftech.de and S-5!: www.s-5.com or please send us an inquiry). When tabled values are used, screw tensions should be verified and factors of safety should be used as appropriate. If you are missing important and necessary information, please request it from us.

The material properties of the respective metals, the combination with each other as well as the installation instructions and regulations of all manufacturers involved (including those of the metal roof) must be observed. If technical details are not described separately, this does not release the company carrying out the work from its obligation to check the individual case and clarify the correct technical facts beforehand.

The installation of our products should only be carried out by qualified and professional specialists with experience in installing on roofs. During installation, the warranties of the installations, snow retention, solar system, etc. and the roof as well as the respective regulations for work on roofs must be observed (e.g. the use of fall protection, scaffolding with safety gear from an eaves height of 3 m, etc.). The presence of two persons is mandatory for the entire installation process in order to ensure rapid assistance in the event of an accident.

RoofTech GmbH, S-5!® – Metal Roof Innovations Ltd. and the other manufacturers of our product range recommend in principle that the planned installation, PV system, snow guard system, etc. should be verified by a qualified professional who is responsible for the snow and wind loads, the additional loads from the installations attached to the clamps, the statics and assembly as well as the planning and construction of and on metal roofs.

The respective installation instructions must always be observed. However, the respective installation instructions do not release the executing company from the obligation to clarify in advance the possible uses and applications of our products, also in connection with the other materials used, on the individual object. RoofTech GmbH, S-5!® – Metal Roof Innovations Ltd. and the manufacturers of our other products assume no responsibility and liability for assembly, suitability and applications.
